WWF-Singapore Unveils First-Ever Edutainment Escape Room to Drive Sustainability and Environmental Awareness

December 7, 2023
  • “Guardians of the Future” comprises a three-part thematic gamified edutainment experience designed to highlight some of the critical global, regional, and local environmental challenges facing our planet
  • In collaboration with homegrown escape room pioneer, The Escape Artist
  • Open to the public from 7 December 2023 to 7 March 2024, at The Escape Artist located at HarbourFront Centre, Level 3, #03-15

SINGAPORE, 7 December 2023 – WWF-Singapore (World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore) launches its thematic Escape Room titled “Guardians of the Future”. This immersive experience redefines the boundaries of fun and purpose with the aim of simplifying complex environmental issues and connecting them to our everyday lives. The three-month activation, hosted at The Escape Artist at HarbourFront Centre, is open to the public at the prevailing escape room ticket prices from 7 December 2023 to 7 March 2024.

Designed around WWF-Singapore’s three thematic pillars – Climate and Sustainability, Nature, and Community – players will embark on a three-part journey (refer to Annex A for gameplay), entering real-world scenarios of a climate refugee, a ranger’s life in a regional forest, and the everyday reality of a Singaporean navigating the challenges of single-use plastic consumption and waste management.

“‘Guardians of the Future’ is not just a thrill-seeking adventure, it’s a call to action for our community since each one of us has a part to play for the environment. Beyond the room, we hope that players can apply this problem-solving approach to real-world sustainability challenges at work and in our everyday lives.” said Vivek Kumar, CEO-designate, WWF-Singapore.

Justin Lee, Founder of The Escape Artist, shared, “Advocating for sustainability through escape rooms has always been on our agenda, but we did not quite know how to pursue it in a credible way. Our collaboration with WWF-Singapore has provided a meaningful avenue to turn commitment into action, merging the thrill of escape rooms with a purpose-driven mission to nurture our players into becoming environmental stewards.”

Tickets are priced at $22/pax (Weekdays) and $28/pax (Weekends & Public Holidays) and can be purchased online at www.wwf.sg/escape-room or in person at The Escape Artist. The Escape Artist will donate part of the ticket sale proceeds toward WWF-Singapore’s conservation efforts.

Educational Booths – Unpacking Illegal Wildlife Trade (complimentary)
As part of the Escape Room activation, WWF-Singapore will be showcasing displays and information about the illegal wildlife trade, including the smuggling tactics used by traffickers, and the impacts of makeshift snares (Annex B). In addition, there will be information available about WWF-Singapore’s conservation efforts to safeguard wildlife and support the well-being of the frontline rangers.

The booths will be available from 7 to 21 December 2023, courtesy of HarbourFront Centre.
