- Iconic landmarks across Singapore, including Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, iFly, and West Coast Community Centre, switched off their lights in solidarity with the global Earth Hour movement. As the official venue partner, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and its island partners joined the Switch Off, highlighting Sentosa’s commitment to sustainability.
- As a science-practice organisation, WWF works on the ground to protect nature and support the communities that depend on it. This SG60, the organisation hopes to work together with fellow Singaporeans to take meaningful steps toward a future where both people and nature thrive.
- Through the Hour Bank, people embraced the spirit of ‘Give an Hour to Earth’ by dedicating time to activities they love—whether volunteering, learning about sustainability, or taking steps to reduce their environmental impact beyond Earth Hour.
SINGAPORE, 22 MARCH 2025 – As Earth Hour marks nearly 20 years of uniting the world for climate action, Singapore’s SG60 celebrations took the call to action a step further. On 22 March, iconic landmarks across the city, spanning Orchard Road, Marina Bay, community clubs, homes, and public spaces, powered down in solidarity, demonstrating that climate action is a collective effort.
At the heart of this movement, WWF-Singapore’s flagship Earth Hour Festival 2025 at Sentosa Sensoryscape brought together thousands to immerse in nature and explore hands-on solutions for a nature-positive, climate-resilient future. The celebration culminated with workshops and activities highlighting the importance of protecting natural spaces and adopting sustainable practices, ensuring a lasting contribution to the nation’s climate resilience.
Key Highlights from the WWF Earth Hour Festival 2025:
- Attendees explored thematic and educational booths covering topics such as efficient recycling, mindful consumption, coral restoration, illegal wildlife trade and citizen science initiatives by WWF.
- Over 140 participants engaged in hands-on workshops, including solar light assembly, water conservation, block printing, and food sustainability through the “Build Your Own Planet-Friendly Meal” workshop.
- Watsons Singapore showcased its sustainability efforts with a bottle recycling initiative, offering a free 490ml refill of Naturals by Watsons Shampoo or Shower Gel, along with a GoGreen game where winners received an exclusive Watsons x WWF reusable bag.
- Attendees wrote their personal sustainability pledges on repurposed banners at Sentosa’s 3D RISE (Rallying Island Sustainability Effort) installation, reflecting their commitment to environmental action.
- The Switch Off Concert began at 6:30 PM, featuring performances by XiXi, Karyn & Sheng Li, EARL the Band, Raffles Girls’ Primary School Choir, Trudance – West Coast and Yuhua, CJ Bubbles, Alhambra Bellydance, and Naomi Shin. The performances led up to the symbolic Switch Off moment at 8:30 PM and continued throughout the hour until 9:30 PM, as Sentosa island switched off non-essential lights in a unified call for climate action.

Members of the public have committed to taking meaningful action for lasting environmental change on WWF-Singapore’s Hour Bank. Besides serving as a platform to track hours spent on nature-positive habits, the Hour Bank functions as a tool to help people discover eco-conscious practices that can be adopted.
“Most of us have experienced 2024 as the hottest year on record. Now is the time to take action to prevent it from becoming even worse. The WWF Earth Hour Festival 2025 empowered individuals to make a difference, whether switching off the lights at home, committing to the Hour Bank, or joining sustainability activities at Sentosa Sensoryscape. However, protecting our planet will need long-term commitment from governments, businesses, and communities. As we celebrate SG60, the dedication shown by Singaporeans for this movement reflects our collective resolve to build a nature-positive future,” said Vivek Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, WWF-Singapore.
“This year, the WWF Earth Hour Festival was held at Sentosa Sensoryscape for the first time, but the commitment to climate action stretched far beyond the festival grounds. It was heartening to see Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) and its island partners—spanning hotels, attractions, and F&B establishments—come together for the Switch Off, making it a truly island-wide effort. Their participation reinforced that conservation and climate action are not just individual choices but shared responsibilities across industries.”
Beyond the hour, businesses play a vital role in driving sustainability. In line with WWF Earth Hour Festival 2025, Samsonite Singapore champions responsible consumption with their annual Luggage Trade-in campaign, where you may trade in your pre-loved luggage (any brand, size, condition) and enjoy 30% off selected collections. This reflects a broader shift in business practices towards minimising environmental impact. WWF-Singapore will continue collaborating with businesses, communities, and policymakers to drive meaningful action, including bringing industry leaders together at the WWF Earth Summit on 23 May to discuss practical steps towards a net-positive future.
As Earth Hour 2025 concludes, the movement sets its sights on a major milestone—the 20th anniversary in 2026. What started as a simple lights-off gesture has now become a global catalyst for climate and nature action, transitioning from symbolic participation to sustained efforts. With next year marking two decades of collective action, the focus remains on amplifying impact and inspiring continued engagement, ensuring every moment contributes to meaningful, long-term change.

About Earth Hour
Earth Hour is WWF’s flagship global environmental movement. Born in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organisations in more than 180 countries and territories to take tangible environmental action for over a decade. Historically, Earth Hour has focused on the climate crisis, but more recently, Earth Hour has strived to also bring the pressing issue of nature loss to the fore. The aim is to create an unstoppable movement for nature, as it did when the world came together to tackle climate change. The movement recognises the role of individuals in creating solutions to the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges and harnesses the collective power of its millions of supporters to drive change.

Progress around WWF’s initiatives in Singapore
- Over 35,000 e-courses have been completed at ASFI Academy since its inception in 2022.
- To date, over 29,200 illegal wildlife marketplace listings have been accurately flagged by 571 volunteers trained through the Cyber Spotters Programme.
- Through the WWF Schools programme, 569 participants from 26 schools embarked on sustainable initiatives within their campuses in 2024.
- WWF-Singapore has supported the planting of 1168 coral fragments along an approximately 330m stretch of light-limited reefs in the Southern Islands as part of a reef restoration research led by the National University of Singapore’s Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI, NUS). Together with the TMSI researchers, WWF-Singapore has trained 27 volunteers as citizen scientists to assist in reef restoration efforts (e.g., preparing coral fragments at SJINML nursery, monitoring and maintaining outplanted corals).
