In our world’s current linear model raw materials are often used to create products that are discarded as waste after the first usage. This model uses up more resources than our earth can replenish or regenerate resulting in diminishing our natural resources. More work needs to be done to ensure the continuity and circularity of materials.
WWF-Singapore is committed to supporting a circular economy system, a regenerative model that strives to keep resources in use for as long as possible, driven by sustainable practices and renewable resources.
A Circular Economy is a model of production and consumption rooted in the concept of 3Rs: Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling.
This way, the life span of products is prolonged, waste is dealt with more efficiently and over time, a more sustainable production model is established.
WWF-Singapore aims to enable an ecosystem where each stakeholder recognises and plays an active part in the bigger collective picture to achieve a sustainable Singapore.
The mobilisation of businesses, governments and consumers in an integrated effort to make a ‘Circular Economy’ a reality will be needed. Aligned with this, our initiatives and programmes are designed to integrate these sectors and work with both organisations and individuals to create a ‘Circular Economy’ and preserve biodiversity.
PACT is a business initiative by WWF-Singapore that aims to reduce waste and move towards a circular economy by working with industries with the biggest potential for driving change. The programme empowers companies to adapt their business models and processes to be more resource-efficient.

WWF’s PACT works with businesses to set ambitious, specific time-bound goals to drastically reduce plastics usage within their company. This also focuses on an increase in their collection of plastics and switching to alternative materials.
These companies receive feedback on their individual progress and challenges on their circular economy goals through a dedicated stewardship programme.
Over the next few years, WWF’s PACT plans to significantly grow the number of PACT commitments specifically in industries such as retail, logistics, hospitality and F&B.
By engaging multiple players in specific sectors, WWF’s PACT identifies unnecessary single-use items. These items can be collectively reduced from an entire business model, which we help businesses achieve through collaboration and feedback.
We are also showcasing the feasibility and scalability of innovative circular economy models for extensive waste reduction through research and pilots.
Some of the notable examples include our Circularity in Retail work, the Retail Bag Charge Pledge and introducing the concept of reusable e-commerce packaging.
These initiatives minimise the use of plastic while aiding businesses in looking for alternative solutions to packaging or materials. Packaging waste alone contributes to one-third of the household waste generated and WWF’s PACT leads the way for businesses to contribute to climate efforts and pave the way for a circular economy.
The Circular economy can be a complex topic, WWF’s PACT bridges the knowledge gap by providing companies with resources, guides and tools, such as the Alternative Materials Tool.
