SINGAPORE, 19 April 2024 – WWF-Singapore (World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore) today announces its upcoming Charity Dinner, “One Earth, One Us”, scheduled to take place on Friday, 19th April 2024, at 6:30 pm at the Begonia Junior Ballroom, Marina Bay Sands.
Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Mr Heng Swee Keat, will attend the event and participate in a fireside chat hosted by Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of WWF-Singapore.
Shared Responsibility to Tackle Climate CrisisFeaturing programmes to spark meaningful conversations about the importance of collective action, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into various aspects of nature loss, biodiversity protection, and the future of sustainability, including:
- A viewing of a clip from the recently released Amazon crime drama series, Poacher. The Emmy-award winning Canadian Filmmaker, Mr Richie Mehta, will speak about his inspirations behind this work and the ‘Story of Our Time’;
- An engaging interview with one of our boots on the ground – a Wildlife Monitoring Officer from Malaysia who works tirelessly with forest rangers to protect the diverse wildlife in Belum Temenggor, one of the last strongholds of the Malayan tiger; and
- A captivating finale that features a decade-long Singapore-based programme. It has touched the hearts of many and nurtured a cohort of future sustainability leaders who have initiated environmental practices starting with their own campuses.
To complement the event, there will be performances by a classical trio on topics of nature and our planet. [Refer to Annex A for full programme details.]
Funds raised during the “One Earth, One Us” Charity Dinner for WWF-Singapore Conservation Fund will directly support a diverse range of local conservation projects such as the WWF Schools programme, and the Cyber Spotter programme.
“As stewards of our planet, it is our collective duty to protect its biodiversity for future generations. Climate crisis and rapid nature loss are unfolding rapidly, with the alarming rise of 0.25°C per decade in average temperatures in Singapore, and a devastating 69% drop in global wildlife populations in the lifetime of just one generation,” said Vivek Kumar, CEO of WWF-Singapore. “’One Earth, One Us’ aims to highlight their interconnectedness by fostering collaboration and action, bringing together exceptional individuals who share a commitment to environmental conservation.”
Together, we can bridge the gap between our collective actions and a sustainable future.
